To Writing!
Inspiration Frenzy or Something Else?
A Daily Practice
I get asked frequently if I wait for inspiration to strike and write like crazy in those moments, and the answer is sometimes.
But more often than not, those moments of inspiration happen because I’m already writing, in the frame of mind of writing, or about to sit down and write.
I have a daily practice of writing, where I get out of bed and make it (this keeps my space neat), get ready for the day (this makes me feel good), spend time with God (this feeds my soul), eat breakfast (this feeds my body), and then I sit before my computer or paper and pencil and I write.
I read once that a habit is an action you’ve taken daily for 160 days for it to become a part of you. You have the power of choosing what those actions are daily and make a new habit.
I’ll choose to start either with editing a piece with fresh eyes, or starting off on a new section of a continuing project. Or I’ll begin a whole new idea and go off from there.
Reminder: I’m doing this because I love it. I love writing. I love editing the pieces. I love to sit down and have time to be creative in this way. If writing for you is not something you love love, then you can choose to do something else you do enjoy with your time!
I did this practice last Saturday (yup, I write on weekends too!). I went outside and sat in the shady warmth of a summer morning with my trusty pad of paper and a black pen and I wrote my four new poetry pieces titled: “Poems En Plein Air.” These are available to read on my social media feed, but I’ll also include them here.

They were fun to write. They are light and breezy. They captured the moments I was witness to. That was my inspiration as I sat down to write. So that was what I wrote.
The answer then from above: I was inspired, but I was also prepared. My body and soul had been fed, now it was time for my mind and creative heart to also get their fair share. And for me, that is through writing.
Until next time my creative friends! I hope you are working on something you love.
